Tuggin' the Tuskarr

Submitted a new comic to the WoW comic contest this month. It's inspired by the Tuskarr, everybody's favorite dumpy buck-toothed race. Tried out a few new different techniques in this one, and used a few tried and true ones. I'm especially impressed with how the digital marker technique shined through, it worked well with the comic too.

Popping Out

I'll just let this painting speak for itself.

Unaware

This is a submission to the WoW Insider's Fan Art Contest. I gave it all I got with this one and churned it out in two nights. I'm not so sure about the premise of the painting, but I liked the way it turned out. It's got that finished, but not overworked look.

The Wrath of Professor Penguin

Continuing my penguin series, I present Professor Penguin. I'm not really sure what kind of super powers he has, but I'm sure whatever it is it's awesome.

Scriffito

I wanted to do something simple today. This was an exercise in making a piece of work with one unifying technique. I used to employ a scriffito technique on copper board covered in black paint so I tried it in a very minimalistic way here. Not sure I like how it turned out, especially with the impromptu subject matter.

Predator

I used a whimsical cartoonly style for this painting. It worked out really well, even though it has a bit of that over-worked looked to it, I'm quite satisfied. These penguin portraits have gotten me back in my groove. Soon I'll have to start on something more challenging.

Portraits of Penguins

I've decided to do a short series of works with penguins as its theme. Here is number 2.

A Bitter Wind

I haven't kept up this blog very well, after my old computer died I just didn't have the heart to do it. It will continue to serve as an art dump for now until I can do something better.

Skullmania

I've been keeping up with the news about Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It's shaping up to be a good one and I can't wait to play it again. I've kind of taken a hiatus from it, but damn I'm getting that urge to give Blizzard money again, curse them!

In other matters, I call the above drawing the Deathdwarf! I really like the cartoony/Penny Arcadey feel of the character but I think I have to work more on the design. I showed Zia, a friend of mine, and she thought the skull motif was too much. I'm inclined to agree with her. In any case, the new comic I'm working on is coming along.

I discovered this website while I was looking for watercoloring techniques in Photoshop. Danidraws.com has been such a great resource with it's many tutorials and helpful information that I think every beginner and intermediate digital artist can benefit from visiting her website.

Dusting Off

I haven't been keeping this blog going and it's been a damn shame. I felt myself improving with every post and drawing. The reason for this is multifaceted. I could sit here all day and list them, but quite frankly I rather not look back on this hiatus and regret it. It has been a time for me to reflect and gather my thoughts on what I really want to do. I really do want to get into the games industry whatever it takes. I have to dust myself off and try again because if I don't I think I'll just end up going crazy. I've done nothing, but sit on my ass and watch tons of TV on the internet and play video games to my heart's content. It's time I unsheathed my pen again and start drawing. I'll start posting again and hopefully consistently. This time off has been a great cleansing. I feel refreshed (maybe a little to much so) and today is a new day. I'll start a new project and see where it'll take me.

Here's some filler for now, a sculpt done in Zbrush with the low poly built in Maya. I never finished it and I might just have to and stuff it into my portfolio.

A Comic About Druids

I just got done with a new WoW comic. Took me the better part of a day, but I'm definitely churning them out faster. I hope they don't dismiss this comic because there is a picture of a naked Tauren in it. It's not like you can see anything, his fat folds conceal everything. I hope you guys like it.

Delilah the Sorceress

I'm doing a new character. I also decided I want a magical theme to my demo reel so I'm gonna go in that direction. This character is gonna be a sorceress and I've done some concepts of it. I actually like the way it turned out, I still have to sure up the costume and the feel of the character.

A Splash More Yellow

Wow I haven't posted in forever. Any who, Here's an update on my business card design. The previous one was way too dark for print and I decided that the crazy cracks in the background are totally unnecessary. It's cleaner and has a better design, there are still more flaws I can iron out, but it's mostly there.

Business Card

Here's my attempt at making a business card, I'm not completely happy with it, but it's better than nothing. The one element I really like is the swirly fire/cloud, it looks neat and I'm satisfied with it.

I Shall Call Him Bubbles

I just submitted this month's entry to WoW comic contest. There's still a few things that bug me about it, but it's as good as it's gonna get. The gnome's hair and the water elemental I'm satisfied with so overall I think it's done well. Time to get to work on the next one.

Goat Boy

Here is a concept from one of the models I'm working on this semester. I've already done the image planes for him and started doing the low poly version. The face is looking good. A lot easier to do since I've had experience on doing low poly modeling from my previous classes. My instructor told me I had to work on my torso anatomy and I'm inclined to agree with him. Have to whip out the anatomy books and study them I suppose. He also mentioned something about goats having split hooves, but personally I think that's more of an artistic choice. I'll still probably end up putting split hooves on the model though.

I really want to work on my detailed high poly work since I have very limited experience in that area. I'll bring this guy in zbrush and try to make a nice normal map that way.

WIP: Tiny Mage

This is from a WoW comic I'm working on. I really love how the pose turned out. The original pencil is so messy and crazy, but it really gave the drawing a flow that would otherwise not be there. The comic is through the pencil stage and I'm gonna ink it digitally like my last comic. I'm also working on another comic on top of this one, my cousin helped me come up with the concept for it, I might post some work in process of it too.

Pretty Birds

In a futile attempt to delay having to do my homework I'm gonna post some more work I did from my previous semester. Here is a pretty tessellation I did for my final, my teacher said it wasn't a "true" tessellation, but I followed the instructions perfectly. I think she missed the fact that it not a translation tessellation it's a glide-reflect variety. I studied MC Escher's glide-reflects and got the technique of making them from my high school years. This is definitely a tessellation.

New Comic Friday

Here is a new comic I did for the wow comic contest I hope it doesn't get flat out rejected like my last one.
